Film composer, producer and Invada Records label boss Geoff Barrow sits down with French-born, Berlin-based electronic artist Kangding Ray (David Letellier) to talk about composing for film, the space between club music and cinema, and the making of the score for Oliver Laxe's Cannes Jury Prize-winning Sirat.
Barrow's scoring work with Ben Salisbury spans Ex Machina, Annihilation, Civil War and Black Mirror, and he recently launched Invada Films with the debut feature GAME. As co-founder of Portishead, he helped define the sound of a generation, and through Invada Records he continues to champion bold music for screen and beyond.
Letellier trained as an architect before moving to Berlin and building a two-decade career at the edges of techno and experimental music, releasing on raster-noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts before launching his own label, ara. His score for Sirat, released through Invada, won the Cannes Best Soundtrack Award, picked up Goya and Feroz Awards, earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score, and is nominated for Discovery of the Year at the 2026 World Soundtrack Awards.
A rare chance to hear two artists who bridge underground music and cinema talk about what happens when sound meets screen.
