The unique craft of creating and structuring short film scripts is rarely taught. This session rethinks the 3-act structure to serve the mini movie.
Many film-makers approach the design of their short films by adapting feature film principles rather than working from an understanding of how the short dramatic narrative works as its own form. This session gives the short film script the proper attention it deserves. We'll take a deep dive into how to design the dramatic conflict for a bite-sized movie and consider how to plot a convincing character shift within the limited time frame (also asking whether character change is actually necessary!) Plus we'll provide a practical reworking of the three act structure as it applies to a ten minute film. This session is suitable for all writers and filmmakers and also those who assess short film scripts and offer feedback.
