Oliver Laxe was born in Paris in 1982 to Galician emigrant parents and moved to A Coruña at the age of six. After completing his secondary education, he moved to Barcelona where he studied filmmaking at the Pompeu Fabra University, before relocating to London where he filmed his first short. His early shorts, including Y las chimeneas decidieron escapar (2006), Suena la trompeta, ahora veo otra cara (2007), and Paris #1 (2008), screened at international festivals and signalled the contemplative, deeply physical approach that would define his features.
